The Media
Toolkit is intended to help Third Sector
organisations raise their profile by taking advantage of
free publicity which is available, and producing effective
publicity material. Originally produced in 2007, the current
version has been updated and expanded. We have kept in some
of the features and articles from the original version as
the principles and practicalities discussed remain the same.
We have though updated the Contacts Section at the end of
the Toolkit
The toolkit will teach you about the different areas of the
media and what the best ways are to interact with them,
together with other tips on how to effectively communicate
your publicity.
Much of the toolkit will also be of use for small voluntary
organisations (without paid employees) aiming to publicise
their work and seek support from the community.
The Media section tackles everything from helping you
identify “a story” to what the media in Suffolk want to hear
about.
The Toolkit “does exactly what it says on the tin” – it’s a
practical guide, with examples, to writing press releases,
newsletters, designing posters and websites, and tells you
how to prepare for an interview, whether it is for a
newspaper, radio or TV..
Hopefully your experiences in dealing with the media will be
positive but just in case they’re not, there is a section on
Problems & The Law.
This toolkit has been produced with the support of BBC Radio
Suffolk.
